Ford : Model A Jitterbug 1930 Model A Ford Hot Rod A Bone Jalopy Rat Rod 32 35 Picture(s) and Description:

Ford

This little Ford jitterbug is fun to drive and surprisingly peppy. It started life as a 1930 Model A Ford Sport Coupe (Model 50-B). The body was removed many years ago and a '29 Coupe cowl section and doors were installed to make it into what many kids in the late 1930's and early 40's called a "Jitterbug", or a "Jalopy". The door frames were removed for the Roadster effect and small door catches were added near the bottoms so the doors shut securely. My dad and his friends had these types of jalopies when they were youngsters in Kokomo, Indiana during that era. They'd buy a ratty Model A for about $10 or $15, then remove the fenders, chop the body down and attach a little wood bed out back. A set of Ford 16" V8 wheels offered better acceleration and racier looks. He'd brag that they were actually pretty fast, having shed all that weight. Sort of a pre-war Indiana version of a rat rod, I guess. They had a lot of fun. This Ford jitterbug is ready to drive. We use it around the neighborhood and to go to some local cruise-ins. It's always a big hit with folks when out in public. You can do the same, or use it as a basis for a period Hot Rod or an A-bone roadster. It's one of the easiest-starting and ruggedly-dependable collector cars I've ever owned. It can sit for months and it still starts on the first turnover. I believe the engine (#A2344643 - produced in Sept '29) has been rebuilt. It runs strong and stays nice and cool even in hot weather. The steering column spark advance & hand throttle also work well. The charging system (generator & amp gauge) works fine and the 6-volt battery is good and strong. There's also small easy-to-reach master safety shut-off switch in the floor board. The original dash board choke pull and carburetor adjusting rod work well too. A small tractor fuel tank, tucked up under the hood, supplies gravity fed fuel to the carburetor. But the original Ford fuel tank, unused for years, still looks OK. And the original fuel petcock, in-line fuel filter & housing and a fuel gauge rebuild kit (shown in the photo w/ the Ford wrench and wiper motor) are all included with the car. It's also got the good-looking '35 Ford V8 16" spoke wheels If you have questions, do ask them before the auction closes. I'll try to answer any questions that you may have; the only exception being inquiries regarding the reserve. In fairness to all bidders I'll not discuss the reserve other than to say it's set at a very reasonable level. I can be reached here in Nashville at 615-497-5530.
