Relisted: I placed my email address on the page and it is a no no, so I have removed the link. Please forgive my error and thank-you for returning to this auction. Discovery Automotive Inc is a family owned and operated automotive sales and service dealership licensed and located in Upstate New York and has been doing so since the early 70’s We are now offering a unique and rare opportunity to own a reproduction kit car that was offered by Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers back in the 70’s and 80’s. Get yourself ready for a mild winter project or an early jump on a spring time toy but either way this is the best start your money can buy. This is a Glassic Industries factory built reproduction of the Ford Model A Roadster with the rumble seat for the 1931 model year. This car was manufactured in September of 1972 in West Palm Beach Florida. The engine is the more popular version of the Ford Mustang 302 cui. 210 HP-V8 motor and the 3-speed automatic transmission. The frame is a fully boxed steel frame custom built for the car. The body is fiberglass with functioning hood, doors and rumble seat This car is very much as it was built with only a few exceptions such as the addition of the radial tires, dual exhaust, newer digital radio with a cassette and the seat was changed to a real comfortable set of newly covered bucket seats with recliners. It still retains the original wire wheel hub caps with the eagle centers on them. I just removed the original plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, belts and hoses. This is the 15” 5-hole Ford rim car. I’m representing this vehicle as a mild project for the simple fact it does need some minor cosmetics. The car is as stated “mostly original” The radiator shell or shroud is cracked in a couple of spots, the front bumper was tapped at some time in its life and has a minor split near the bottom bolt hole, the radio is a mede-ochure fit at best, there is a small chip in the fiberglass gel coat on the driver’s door and there are 2 frays in the carpet where someone snagged the carpet on their shoes or some similar situation. I will show in photos. The body has some very minor age stress marks and minor sun fading in the gel-coating. This car is not repainted or painted at all in fact. It is the original gel coat finish that the car was produced in and hasn’t been repaired or damaged at all. Small wear marks in the convertible top where it rubs when folding up or down and a small crack in the RH wind window (plastic-easy fix) I would professionally consider this vehicle a strong driver quality car and I have been in the automotive and restoration business for 40 plus years. A very easy and inexpensive restoration could bring this one back to the top, but it is what it is, a great cruse in car with so many possibilities from a Touring to a Street Rod. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great looking and running car. I just don’t want someone buying the car and then complaining about all of the minor details. This car runs and drives really nicely with just a small tap to the throttle to set the choke on the new carb and she starts right up and drops right into gear firmly/smoothly. All gauges, lighting and controls work perfectly. The heat blows nice and hot. The top folds up and down without any issues and is in great condition with no holes, only a couple of minor frays and one very small crack in the outer vinyl layer and not all the way through. The rear window is very clear and clean. I had new side curtains professionally made to match the top. The top boot is in great condition too! The front seats were a gray cloth and I had them recovered to match the rear rumble seat and then had brackets made so that the seats functioned freely and sit so that almost any 6’-3” or shorter adult can comfortably drive this vehicle. The door panels, dash pad and rumble seat are in great condition. The engine, transmission and running gear work perfectly and are free of noise, leaks and smoking. All inspection and safety items are intact and in good working order. Car comes with a custom made car cover built for this car and still new in the box. The car is numbered serial number 595 and was completed September 30th of 1972. The Glassic has a very low original 9900 miles. I just did a tune-up, replaced the belts and hoses, coolant flushed, changed the oil (Mobil 1 full synthetic) flushed and serviced the rear differential. I replaced the dried vacuum lines and hoses and repaired and reattached the wiring harnesses that were never properly attached back in the early 70’s with items like tie straps and harness loops. This was formerly from New Jersey and was originally on a Jersey title. The car was purchased in April of 2009 by one of our good customers and then had it shipped to Upstate New York. The car currently is on the transferrable registration as all New York titles are for 1973 and earlier vehicles. The older gentleman purchased this car from a dealer, specializing in quality reproductions and replicas that is located in Monroe New Jersey. The car was sold to our customer for the sum of $14,700 then shipped to him in Upstate New York. Since its arrival it has had the following needed repairs and upgrades so that the car would perform as intended. New carburetor- $650, back fired stalled, leaked fuel. Exhaust replaced/repaired- $250, hanging on by a thread. Rear Luggage Chest- $800, a real nice leather locking chest. –Optional only. Radio and speakers- $150 lower grade digital Steering wheel- $225, last one was cracked and not original. Tune-up- $400, everything was the original pieces. Recovered seats / custom brackets- $900, sold with seats literally sitting on the floor on blocks. Battery- $100, thought to be the starting problem. Starter- $180, would not start when hot…the starting problem resolved Service items- $400 Including belts, hoses, vac. lines, oil, filters, coolant flush and diff service. New Coil- $60, lost spark due to wiring issues..Also leaking. Rewired the distributor- $75, spark issues repaired Alignment- $75 Side curtains- $500, missing originals but the boot was still present. Total current investment of $19,465 and again does not include many smaller items of repair and service. Our shop has worked on this car almost every week since he purchased this car, restoring many items that were simply original and aged. Once this car was finished, the customer could not afford to pay insurance on his four vehicles and pay to store two of them so we were asked to sell it for him. The following was offered for some history of the Glassic Model A’s that were produced from 1966-1981 and sold through Ford & Lincoln Mercury dealers. This article was produced by and is here reprinted with kind permission of Gilles Bachand of Montreal Most of the cars were Phaeton body style, but there were some more rare Roadsters and a very few pickup trucks built. The company changed their name to Replicars sometime in the mid '70's, so later models used that name, although the name "Glassic" is used as a generic term for both nameplates. Glassic replicas are sometimes confused with Shay replicas, about 5,000 of which were made during a similar time period. The Shay replicas more closely resemble the actual Model A, whereas the Glassics were modified a little in appearance to be more practical for contemporary driving. The Shay replicas used Pinto 4-cylinder engines, and consisted mostly of rumble-seat Roadsters and Roadster pickup trucks. Glassics can be identified by their wider doors and more contemporary 14 inch or 15 inch wheels. By Don Davis Glassic Automobiles- Approximately 1500 fiberglass-bodied replicas of 1931 Model A Fords were made by the Glassic Company in West Palm Beach Florida. They were manufactured between about 1966 and 1980, at first using International Scout four-cylinder engines and chassis, changing in 1972 to Mustang 302 cubic inch V-8 engines sold directly to Glassic Industries by Ford Motor Company. Ford required these vehicles to conform to strict emission testing and safety standards before allowing the use of the Ford name and power train applications. The frames were specially build fully boxed steel frames. Recap: As earlier stated this would make a great project for many reasons. Just suppose you want to build a street rod and you want to use a historical body like the Model A. Try pricing one of these kits lately? Now go buy yourself the frame, engine, suspension, wiring, trim, hardware, transmission, differential and other running gear, the steering controls, top, seats, interior, bumpers/chrome and various other items and soon you have over $50,000 of hard earned money tied up tightly in a car worth less than 2/3 of you investment…how does that feel. Or perhaps you paid someone to build your car and now you’re talking about the 100 grand plus-cars. Do yourself a financial favor and buy a car your can do your own work on, still drive it and very much enjoy the car and your money in the bank too! Please do not bid if you have no intentions of buying this car. This car is approximately 38 years old and you should consider that when bidding. This is a used car and as such you should expect to be buying a used car. Nothing is free and they don’t fix themselves so expect to get what you pay for, nothing more, nothing less. I reserve my right to end this listing at my option. I will not end the auction early unless the “Buy it now” option is chosen. Thank-you for your bids and considerations with regards to this auction. Rick Discovery Automotive Inc
